2 COMMON RAIL FUEL INJECTION The Bosch Common Rail System optimizes fuel injection rates to ensure that all injectors get equal pressure. This design contributes to reduced combustion noise.

3 DEEP-SKIRT BLOCK DESIGN A deep-skirt V8 block design contributes to a rigid, structurally sound engine block to help reduce noise, vibration and harshness.

4 DIRECT-INJECTION The direct-injection system delivers precisely metered amounts of fuel to the engine to help with optimum control of combustion and to help reduce noise levels and emissions.

5 TECHNOLOGY Alloy connecting rods are fracture-split so the two pieces lock together. This process reduces weight and increases durability.

6 ALUMINUM CYLINDER HEAD The cylinder head is designed to enhance combustion efficiency and it is constructed of strong, lightweight aluminum which dissipates heat.

7 INTEGRAL OIL COOLER An engine oil cooler was designed directly into the engine, as opposed to being added to the radiator end tank. This design optimizes water flow through the oil cooler, which provides cooler oil to the engine.

8 OIL SPRAY PISTON COOLING The Duramax 6600 engine features a piston cooling oil gallery for improved durability and engine life. Small nozzles spray oil on the underside of the piston bowl helping to cool the piston on each stroke.

INNOVATION Among its many innovative features, the Allison 1000 Series has an automatic grade braking function. It automatically downshifts to help the driver slow the vehicle and avoid excessive use of the brakes when hauling or pulling heavy loads down long, steep grades. Using the same type of advanced technology, a passive shift stabilizer detects and overcomes "shift busyness" that might be encountered when driving in hilly or mountainous terrain. Electronic controls maintain the transmission in the lowest gear for optimal performance when trailering or transporting cargo.
